If you're looking for a calm, yet very riveting movie watch Speak (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378793/). I'm sure most of you know about the book and this movie (in which Kristen Stewart is truly amazing).

It's such a touching story and very well filmed. The quiet scenes (which is like the 90% of the movie) and the inner voice of Melinda was amazing. Kristen Stewart is really really amazing portraying this girl. I just love how her face lights up when she smiles, and throughout the movie you literally miss her smile...

Also Steve Zahn was a bonus for me since I adore him ♥

So, yes, watch this movie and let me know what you think :) I have to find the book and read it sometime. Considering the movie, the actual book must be absolutely amazing!

I've seen this and while it's definitely a good movie, the ending kind of... I don't know, it seemed to give the wrong message. Sort of that she needed to react with violence to punish violence. Which is tantamount to the eye for an eye thing.

oh I would have done much worse if I had seen that guy! I pretty much wanted to kill him after seeing what the secret was. So yes, I really liked the ending :))
my favourite part was when Melinda showed her "tree art" to mr. freeman, and how his tears welled up ♥ and melinda's smile was so sincere, so lovely ♥

I'm not saying he shouldn't have gotten punished, just that the idea that we have to take justice into our own hands is troubling. I can imagine that if she would have gone to the authorities, it might have been an uphill battle, but the more women do go and speak up in court rather than behind the scenes, the more chances we'll have of shattering the 'she wanted it' myth.

What the guy (what was his name again?) did was horrible and yes, she's scarred for life. But by not reporting him, she locks herself in this dilemma and this silence that she just can't escape for the rest of the movie. And she draws the school's disdain because they all think she called the cops to stop their party - nobody knows why she really did it because she doesn't tell them.

yes, you're completely right about that. And Melinda couldn't be saved until she actually spoke to someone about it. (it should have been the authorities of course, but then there wouldn't be a movie to watch LOL)

Thank god, I've never been in that kind of a situation in my life, but I'm sure it's incredibly hard to be brave and speak. She was basically frozen when she picked up the phone. I'm amazed at how she managed to find the phone and called 911 in the first place. Some other girl could have run away... I don't know... There are endless posibilities to what can a woman do in that situation, don't you think? And since all these stuff still happens on a daily basis, most of those woman choose to stay silent, which is just tragic.

it is absolutely horrible and women shouldn't be put in this position in the first place, but since we (sadly) seem to have no control over men to stop them raping, we need to take control of the legal system and the social consciousness and push ourself to not stay quiet and suffer in silence. Melinda's story is terrible, fiction or not, but in RL, so many men who go unreported go on to rape again and again. Precedent is important.

and I totally don't remember the guy's name either! he was just the rapist for me..
