thelakeI'm always late on True Blood talk, but I just saw a piece of review in AV Club's comments and wanted to share.

For me, the reason Bill & Sookie are kinda boring is not so much a chemistry issue between Paquin and Moyer as much as it is a character issue between Bill and Eric.
Bill is a relatively young vampire (140 or so) and still remembers (fondly) something of what it was like to be human. As a human, he was a Southern Christian (with all the courtly, pious paternalism that implies), a farmer, a family man, and a veteran of the losing side of the bloodiest war ever fought by the USA - a war that haunts him still. His maker was a clingy bitch who attacked him when he was trying to go home. He HATED being turned into a vampire. He's tortured, he's earnest, and so fucking BORING.
And on the other hand, we have Eric, ex-Viking, over 1000 years old. If he remembers what it was like to he human, he doesn't care and certainly isn't whining about what he lost. He was a pagan (with all the fatalism and hedonism that implies). Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die! Ragnarok is coming, sin harder! When he was raiding villages back in the day, he would've knocked salt-of-the-earth farmers like Bill on the head without even thinking about it. His maker was AWESOME and rescued him from a lingering, painful death. He LOVES being a vampire. He's modern, he's got a slyly ironic sense of humor, and he's so fucking AWESOME!
When Sookie has a character like Eric making a play for her, any time she spends with Bill is going to feel flat and mopey compared to the fun, super-hot adventures she could be having with Eric.
