United States of Tara

I don't know if you remember my mild obsession with Multiple Personality Disorder, but it's back with full force. I'm writing about it (at least attempting to) so I'm watching/reading/listening about it a lot.
My next stop is United States of Tara. I meant to watch this last year, when it first started and was reminded during Emmys, but now is the perfect time.
The show is created by Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) and produced by Steven Spielberg and has Toni Colette (which I'm pretty indifferent to) so it should be good.
Is it good? It's satisfactory and it's a pretty good inspiration material for me because I am also trying to make MPD into a romantic-comedy, so I don't have to go all "Sybil" on the issue. (I still need to read/watch Sybil though...)
Plus it has John Corbett! Mr. Aidan Shaw from Sex and the City. My all time favourite among Carrie's boyfriends. (Big is out of question.) He's all Aidan-esque and I'm fine with it. I wasn't expecting a groundbreaking revelation.
The alters are pretty good, too. After reading Switching Time it's a lot of fun to analyze (as much as I can) what's going on in Tara's mind when her alters show up. My favourite's Alice because she is evil! She wants to take over Tara's mind once and for all and stay out forever. It's scary, but also fitting because to be honest Tara isn't doing a very good job being a mother. And it's understandable if you have a daughter like Katie. Bitchyness at its peak.
I think I'm on ep. 8 and the show is doing a pretty good job so far. MPD is usually a result of childhood abuse, but we don't know much about why Tara is switching. All we know is she's off her meds because it makes her feel dull, useless, etc. At this point, I think it's best we don't know the details of what made Tara like this, because I don't want to go into the angsty stuff just yet.
All in all, human mind is full of mysteries and although MPD is a pretty serious and sad disorder I can't help but be amazed.
