the lovely bones: the movie
Jan. 18th, 2010 11:14 pmIt definitely can't hold a candle to the book, but still pretty. Stanley Tucci did an excellent job with George Harvey, he was even creepier than I imagined Harvey! Kudos!
I'm glad they didn't keep Abigail/Len affair in the movie, they wouldn't have enough time left to justify Abigail's choices.
Mark Wahlberg was a very good Jack ♥ But above it all, Lindsey and Grandma Lynn were amazing ♥
I'm also happy to see the penguin snow globe ♥ and Ruth and Ray and the kiss...
I wish they kept the story behind the icicle though, it being the perfect murder weapon because it melts afterwards. I loved that bit.
All in all, it was a really good movie, but book > all. As usual...

Date: 2010-01-19 03:51 am (UTC)YES! My brother totally didn't understand the icicle bit since he doesn't read books (pfft). I'm glad they left out the affair as well and about Ray Singh's mum.
In the movie her mum's depression wasn't really depression at all. We didn't even see the photograph that Susie took of her.
Also.... what was with the gazebo!

Haha the gazebo! I think the script writer didn't want to include the sex scene between Ruth!Susie and Ray SINCE THEY CUT MORE THAN HALF OF THE BOOK, so they wanted to connect Ray with the gazebo and the kiss that never happened etc.
Now that I think about the movie again, it was pretty weak. The ending was rushed like crazy. Did you notice that one time Abigail's hair was long and the next time when she was visiting Susie's room it was short again? It was very confusing. And it took Lindsey and Samuel 8 years to get engaged and be pregnant, but BAM! they were building their house!
It could have been better. 10 minutes longer maybe, but better.
